When babysitting our six month old niece recently, we decided to head out for some lunch. We packed up the car with the vast array of supplies and equipment needed for moving a tiny person around and headed to Stockbridge, one of our favourite places in Edinburgh. Stockbridge has an abundance of nice places for lunch, on this occasion we chose The Pantry. Having been before we knew it would be really child friendly. After finding a table, and there are plenty to choose from, we located a high chair, which are also in plentiful supply. We got settled in and the waitress, after giving us time to compose ourselves, took our order.
We chose Smoked Bacon and Maple Syrup Waffles. These were delicious, with the waffles having a nice crunch but still fluffy inside and the bacon and maple syrup giving that classic salt/sweet combination.
We also had Smashed Avocado on Chunky Toast with Goats Curd and Pomegranate. This dish had some great textures and the flavours worked well together. It was also very filling.
After fulfilling the baby feeding/changing duties we felt we deserved some cake and coffee. The coffee choices were standard and the quality of the coffee was really good. The cake choices were a lot more adventurous. We chose the Vanilla Latte Cake, which had a nicely textured sponge and well flavoured coffee and vanilla icing.
We also had Rose Cake (pictured above), which again had a lovely sponge, very light with a rose flavoured icing which reminded us of Turkish Delight. Rose flavoured things are some of our favourites at the moment. We really enjoyed our lunch at The Pantry and with the kids play area, plentiful supply of books and toys and a relaxed atmosphere, this is a great place for families.
