A Cut Above at Twenty Princes Street
September 13, 2018

It’s been a couple of months since I visited for ‘A Cut Above’ at Twenty Princes Street, and since then I have found myself recommending it many times.

I have had the pleasure of visiting Twenty Princes Street several times now and I’m pleased to discover it gets better each time.

We took our seats at the front of the restaurant which enjoys views of Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle.

A visit to Twenty should always begin with cocktails, and they should be gin ones – their bar, Juniper, specialises in these and you should take advantage.

A Cut Above is basically a steak deal – two steaks, triple cooked chips, salad, and a nice bottle of wine. When done well, is there any better way to spend a Friday night?

Twenty

We enjoyed starters ahead of the main event. The Crispy Confit Chicken Wings delivered more than the visual promised – soft de-boned chicken wing encased in a crispy batter, a smooth corn puree and a carrot and coriander slaw which offered the perfect amount of acidity. This was a dish I could eat again and again.

Alex had the very Scottish sounding Buccleuch Black Pudding & Haggis French Toast. An innovative dish which had a savoury/sweet quality with the contrast of the raspberry salad against the meaty haggis and pudding, this ended up making it very moreish.

The steak cut on the night we were there was fillet, it changes each month, along with the price. It was a delicious cut cooked exactly how I requested on their Josper grill. The triple cooked chips and salad were nice sides and I finished mine off with a delicious peppercorn sauce. It’s been a while since I enjoyed a steak as much as this.

I have had a few versions of the Flaming Alaska dish now, I can remember the last one was a Caribbean inspired affair with rum and pineapple, this one featured Maldon toffee, chocolate sponge, chocolate button ice cream and marshmallow. It was very sweet so we made the right decision to share. I can’t wait to see what they’ll come up with next.

As I said at the top, I have recommended A Cut Above several times to family and friends, and now I’m recommending it to you!
