If you follow us on Instagram you’ll have seen we bought a new car, well it was on the way to Honeycomb & Co when our Mini showed the first signs of failure. We arrived in ‘Emergency Program’ which meant I had no control over gears and was limited to about 40mph – not exactly a major concern with the relatively new 20mph speed limit around town!
If anything is going to help you forget for a moment the hell of car failure, it’s a lovely mid priced afternoon tea with your daughter. Enter… Honeycomb & Co with its brand new offering.
I thought perhaps I might be moving towards afternoon tea fatigue, but no, Honeycomb & Co delivered a fresh and exciting take on the classic which brightened my mood no end.
I asked for something with elderflower to drink and this is what arrived. It sums us Honeycomb & Co – care and attention is given to every detail and you feel you’re somewhere they really relish hosting you. Good vibes.
Afternoon Tea arrived and delivered the appropriate wow factor, despite this being a more casual mid priced version (£20pp)
The savoury selection here was strong! First up the overall highlight of the afternoon tea, a Prawn & Fennel Curry Shot, it was a vibrant green colour with a flavour profile to match. This little mouthful got us both excited. The Mini Lamb Kofta was in keeping with the style of the other food at Honeycomb & Co and was a clever way to link it back. An Isle of Mull Cheddar & Honey Roast Ham Toastie was inspired. Whoever thought of a toastie on an afternoon tea deserves a pay rise! There was also the obligatory Cream Cheese & Cucumber Sandwich and a roll of Edinburgh Gin Cured Salmon.
Scones were fresh out of the oven with an epic lemon and blueberry jam and Chantilly cream. Now I know Chantily cream will divide us, and yes, usually I am firmly in the clotted camp on this, BUT the daughter was right on this occasion, the lighter version worked really well.
The patisserie selection was nicely balanced with a citrusy Lemon Posset and Polenta Cake, a Caramelised Apple & Dulce De Leche Friand and a Belgian Chocolate & Sea Salt Brownie which he had boxed up to take home and then forgot (weeps).
If you like an Afternoon Tea with a stronger savoury game, this one fits the bill.
I’m a fan of Bruntsfield as a place to eat, it’s somewhere that has gradually been getting better and better and Honeycomb & Co is a prominent jewel in the crown.
