As well as a gorgeous Michelin star meal, we were also invited to enjoy afternoon tea at Bohemia during our stay at the Club Hotel & Spa, Jersey.
Afternoon tea was served in the bar area of the restaurant which features low leather seats and large tables. The lighting is low and the atmosphere is relaxed. We decided to enjoy afternoon tea following a morning of spa treatments so we arrived suitably relaxed.
In contrast to our Michelin star dinner which was complex with several elements, the afternoon tea stood out because of its simplicity.
A selection of brown and white sandwiches were simply presented in the traditional style with crusts off. There were no warm pastry elements so we moved straight onto the homemade scones, again these were relatively plain but exceptionally fresh and served with the obligatory clotted cream and jam. The key with minimialism is that every element then has to be perfect, which it was.
The patisserie section featured just three larger elements. My favourite was the Opera Cake – those who watch the Great British Bake Off will be familiar with this intricate multi-layered cake featuring flavours of almond, coffee and chocolate.
An Elegant Carrot, Cinnamon & Walnut Cake had been delicately frosted to look like a rose, while the Lemon Meringue Tart literally looked like a ray of sunshine.
A nice afternoon in comfortable surroundings, I’d recommend having it on the beautiful sun terrace if the weather is fine.
