OK, so we’re most definitely biased, but Edinburgh is the best city in the world. It’s the perfect blend of historic old town with classic architecture, cobbled streets and of course, a massive castle all enveloped by a modern, vibrant cosmopolitan city oozing with cool bars and restaurants, cinemas, and plenty of night life to keep you entertained until the wee small hours.
With all that being said, it’s not hard to see why Edinburgh has high property prices making the “city centre living experience” a dream for most. If you are visiting Edinburgh as a tourist or even coming into town for an evening out or a special occasion, Braid Apartments by Mansley provide a viable alternative to hotels and will give you that city living experience.
The apartment we stayed in was well equipped, superbly decorated and furnished. We had all the space we needed with one double bedroom, a large living room/kitchen, and bathroom. The stylish decor made the place feel premium and the facilities in the kitchen, with everything you would need to cook a nice meal, make it feel homely and familiar. The living room was a great place to relax on the sofa with a glass of wine. It provided more of a home from home feeling than you’d get from a hotel.
Braid Apartments are located in the cool but quiet Thistle Street, which is a five minute walk to the infamous Princes Street & Gardens and a two minute walk to the superb bars and restaurants on George Street. In fact, on Thistle Street itself you have one of the most exciting and in demand restaurants in Edinburgh, El Cartel. This cool Mexican restaurant serves up some of the most delicious food I’ve ever had in this city and is a very cool place to be. Expect hip-hop music, margaritas served from Slush Puppy machines and Pacifico, one of my husband’s favourite beers. This place is a must visit! They don’t take bookings but if you rock up and there’s no tables, you can wait in the Bon Vivant, the excellent bar across the street and they’ll come and get you when your table’s ready.
Because of the excellent location, you are also near to many other must visit bars and restaurants. Six by Nico is one of Edinburgh’s newest venues and is gaining quite the reputation. You are also very close to Fazenda, a spectacular Brazilian Rodizio Bar and Grill where perfectly cooked meat is carved onto your plate until your stomach submits!
As I mentioned, you are essentially a street away from some of the best shopping in Edinburgh. So if you fancy a coffee and pastry for breakfast at Burr & Co., a stroll along George Street to shop in The White Company, Jo Malone, or Anthropologie then lunch at Dishoom, more shopping and grabbing dinner at Twenty Princes Street before retiring to your own apartment to relax in a bath with a glass of wine, you could not wish for a better base location than the Braid Apartments.
