Anyone who knows me, knows that my favourite meal to have out is breakfast. It makes me feel relaxed, like I’m on holiday. There is a lot to be said for good coffee/tea and lovely breakfast food to start the day off in the right way.
Having worked quite often in the Canonmills area of Edinburgh, I knew there was a fairly bustling cafe scene down there, with several good ones in around a 500 metre radius. I’ve always wanted to try the glass fronted Di Giorgio Cafe so we decided to give it a try one morning whilst we were in town.
We chose from the wide selection on the breakfast menu and settled on French Toast with Bacon and Maple Syrup and the small version of the Scottish Breakfast with a couple of coffees for good measure. The French Toast was perfection, light and fluffy with a crispy outside. The Scottish Breakfast also tasted fresh with good quality ingredients.
The coffee was freshly brewed and nice and strong, just like Italian coffee should be. We also had a pot of tea later and although we were severely tempted by the extraordinary cake selection we held firm and resisted.
If we’re in the area again, although there are plenty of other places near by, I’d be heading back here. The service was first rate with great food to match!
