Over the past couple of weeks I have been highlighting some of the great places to eat on board Britannia. It really is a great ship for foodies, not least because the ‘Food Heroes’ they have supporting. During our cruise, Eric Lanlard was doing talks, a hosted dinner, and a masterclass. We were very excited to find out we would be joining the masterclass. We’re both keen cooks and were looking forward to finding out what we could learn from the master patissier himself.
The cook school on board is state of the art, if you love cooking you will feel very at home.
The class started with a blue cheese and fig tart with a walnut pastry. Eric passed on lots of tips, but I’m afraid you’ll need to join him on a cruise if you want to be privy to those! The pastry making was really useful for me, it’s not something I usually do, but it was so easy I did feel inspired to make it again at home.
The whole class gasped when Eric announced our second dish would be a soufflé, it puts the fear into even the best of cooks. With Eric’s masterful tuition we had a full complement of risen soufflés, and lots of happy diners as we tasted the fruits of our labour.
Finally we were given a demonstration on how to make this West Indies chocolate tart which we got to take away with us.
We had a great time with Eric who was really approachable and friendly, I definitely left feeling inspired. Thanks Eric!
