A couple of months back I was in London with a client. We had booked in at The Ivy for dinner. Following our meeting we were in need of a bite to eat before dinner. There was talk of cheese and wine, or a salad somewhere. We ended up sitting in The Ivy Market Grill for lunch before leaving to enjoy a three course dinner at The Ivy.
This is the tale of two Ivies.
The Ivy Market Grill is in Covent Garden. It was lovely and sunny on the day we were there so we sat on the terrace, a great place for people watching.
Pictured above: Mozzarella salad with asparagus and pine nuts.
Crispy duck salad with mooli and pomegranate.
A chilled glass of champagne in the sunshine.
I had a really nice cider based cocktail which I don’t appear to have taken a picture of, I obviously had other priorities!
We left The Ivy Market Grill after a couple of hours of relaxed chat and began the short walk to The Ivy – the original one.
The Ivy has just reopened following extensive reservations. The oval art deco bar dominates the room and demands you order something smart like a French Martini, so that’s what I did.
Bang bang chicken, peanuts & chilli.
Seared scallops, roasted cauliflower, coppa & sauce Jacqueline.
Strawberry sorbet, jelly, and fresh strawberries.
Sticky toffee pudding.
The Ivy Tasting Plate, because I couldn’t choose. The chocolate fondant was lovely but the jelly was one of the nicest I’v ever had.
The Ivy was a great experience. The food was really good, although I’ve had better – but as I’m told, you don’t go to The Ivy for fine dining.
