Shortly after boarding our foodies cruise on Britannia, we started planning our challenge – to eat at every restaurant on board.
Becky and I are serious foodies and had no intention of failing. We began our culinary exploration of Britannia at Market Cafe, located in the main atrium. Here you’ll find a selection of gourmet boards, patisseries by Eric Lanlard, and a range of gelato based on Great British puds.
We began, as we always do, with cake. Everything in the chill cabinet looked delicious, but we opted for a big slab of shiny Sachertorte. Beautifully decorated with some delicate chocolate work, it was soft and rich and indulgent. The perfect beginning to our foodie challenge.
Later on in the trip we returned to Market Cafe to try two of the gourmet boards. These are picky platters for one, or do as we did and get two to share.
The British Pub Platter – mini artisan beef mushroom and ale pie, minted pea purée, onion marmalade, mini pickles, game chips, pork scratchings, Scotch egg and piccalilli.
Samosas and Spice – vegetable samosa, cucumber raita, katchumber salad, mini poppadums, Bombay mix, mango chutney and lime pickle.
I loved these boards and at just £3.25, they were a bargain. If I’m ever on Britannia I’ll be going straight back to try the other four!
