In what used to be known as Bar Roma, on Queensferry Street, a new project has opened up. Foundry 39 is the latest addition to Edinburgh’s ever expanding restaurant scene. Offering up burgers, sourdough pizzas, amazing chicken wings and nachos to accompany a fantastic beer selection and an extensive cocktail list, it is a cool, relaxed place with a chilled atmosphere to enjoy a one stop night out.
There is a nicely lit and furnished restaurant area and a bar. We went for a nice comfortable booth and ordered. To get an idea of what the food was like we ordered a burger and a pizza. The burger we had was the “Black and Gold” Burger, smothered in cheese, mustard and a generous slice of black pudding. It was an interesting combination and one that I really enjoyed and would definitely order again.
Our second main was the Jerk Chicken Pizza which had a garlic butter sourdough base, sweet peppers, red onion and caramelised pineapple and of course, jerk seasoned chicken. The pizza was tasty but we found it a little too sweet and lacked the heat you’d expect from something with jerk spices.
We ordered a couple of sides to go with our main meals. If Chilli Cheese Fries are on the menu, I’m ordering them. They were crispy skin-on fries generously topped with spicy chilli, cheese and jalapenos. Very satisfying.
Mac ‘N Cheese with Maple Glazed Bacon was our other choice. It was creamy and rich with a lovely sweet/salty kick from the bacon. Delicious!
We really enjoyed our meal here and loved the atmosphere and furnishings. The food was really nice and if you’re looking for a place to grab a few drinks and some food, I would recommend this place.
