Fringe 2017: The Art and Science of Gin
August 11, 2017

We arrived at 99 Hanover Street slightly early for our 1.30pm show. Naturally, we ordered ourselves a gin to get warmed up.

In this hour long show Edinburgh Gin invites you to step inside the world of gin like never before, exploring the illustrious history and modern resurgence of the spirit. You’ll embark upon a journey spanning three centuries; from the historical beginnings of Edinburgh’s gin craze in the 1700s to the global search for botanicals and the modern-day distillation process. Using projection mapping technology, this show will immerse you in the art and science of gin, exciting your senses with the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of the gin-making process.

We received a welcome drink as we moved into the show area, plus a cocktail, and two tasting shots – so if you think £20 is steep for a show, just factor that in, it’s a great start to a night out or an afternoon session.

The first part of the show took you back in time and explained the history of gin in Edinburgh before one of the distillers from Edinburgh Gin introduced us to some of the different botanicals. It was an informative show that will appeal to gin fans. You also receive a gin passport which you can visit different bars with and collect stamps. Collect all the stamps and you can claim a free cocktail at Edinburgh Gin’s cocktail stand on The Mound!
