We’ve done the Maid Of The Forth Sightseeing Cruise a few times now. The cruise takes you from Hawes Pier in South Queensferry up the Firth of Forth to Inchcolm Island before returning.
There is an abundance of marine wildlife to be seen such as Grey Seals, Puffins, Guillemots, Razorbills and the occasional sightings of porpoises, dolphins and even Minke whales. Plus of course unique views of the now three bridges: Forth Rail Bridge, Forth Road Bridge, and the Queensferry Crossing.
On arrival at Inchcolm Island you have the option of getting off the boat and spending 90mins exploring the magnificent Inchcolm Abbey and Island before boarding the boat again and returning to South Queensferry.
It was a little overcast on the day we went, however with both an outdoor deck and an indoor area, this is not a problem. The cruise is an ideal family experience, on this occasion we had an 11 yr old and an 18mth old and they both enjoyed it equally. We managed sightings of both seals and puffins which the kids loved.
There is a small bar/cafe on board which sells hot drinks, snacks, and alcoholic beverages. There’s also a small gift shop ideal for pocket money purchases.
After your cruise you can take a walk along the prom, and through the pretty high street in South Queensferry.
For good quality family dining in the area, we recommend you continue your walk to Port Edgar Marina where you’ll find excellent food at Down The Hatch.
