During our stay at the Inn on Loch Lomond, we ate at Mr C’s. It’s a cross between a fish restaurant and a chippy, so no matter what you want, you’ll find something suitable on the menu – you can also eat in or take away.
We started with Shetland Mussels to share. It was a large portion and served with plenty of bread, more than enough to share if you’re going on to enjoy mains (which are also very large portions!)
We both chose mains from ‘The Chippy’ section of the menu. I had Battered Calamari and my friend had the Breaded Scampi. Both dishes were really tasty, the chips were particularly good – definitely in the chip shop style. Neither of us managed to finish the generous portions! The service was slightly slow and a wee bit haphazard, we noticed a few other tables getting a bit agitated, but it was busy which perhaps contributed to that.
Dessert was something I have never had before…. Deep Fried Millionaire’s Shortbread with Irn Bru Sorbet, and because that’s not enough sweetness, it’s also served with chocolate sauce. Now I know from experience that approximately half of you will be currently salivating at the thought of this combination, whilst the other half will feel their teeth rotting at the mere thought of it. We decided to brave it, and, yes, it was INCREDIBLY sweet. We didn’t quite manage to finish it between the two of us – if you have a sweet tooth, go for it, you’ll probably not find this anywhere else!
The food is really good at Mr C’s – reasonably priced, large portions, and cooked well. Service may be a little slow/haphazard, but it’s still worth a visit if you want some hearty (read: deep fried) food to keep you going on your road trip!
