In between all the eating it’s nice just to have a little lie down and relax, right? I’ve visited a few good spas in Scotland including Gleneagles and Blythswood Square, my two favourites.
One Spa opened in October 2001 and is arguably the most luxurious spa in central Edinburgh featuring its iconic rooftop Hydropool.
To begin our spa day we enjoyed an hour long treatment by one of the ESPA trained therapists. ESPA combines philosphies from the ancient and modern worlds and is a holistic treatment for the mind and body. If you’ve never tried ESPA products I’d urge you to do so, they are among my favourites and have the most comforting scent I’ve ever found in a skincare range.
My therapist made me feel completely at ease during the 1hr 20 minute Aromatherapy Massage, handily I’d had a really stressful day the previous day so got to experience the real effects, and I have to say I felt so much better. My whole body felt completely at peace by the end. I floated into the SPA Cafe without a care in the world.
After a homemade bowl of soup and toasted pannini we made our way back to the spa to enjoy the Escape at One package
Escape at One is available Monday to Friday. You can enjoy three hours exploring the collection of heat and water treatments inspired by the ancient Celts and Romans, including THAT rooftop Hydropool and the indoor swimming pool.
The Thermal Suite features:
Rock Sauna – a classic sauna that has a purifying effect on the body
Bio Sauna – a combination of heat and humidity infused with an orange essence to create a more gentle experience and enhanced with coloured fibre-optic lights
Laconium – gentle, dry heat distributed through the floor and benches
Tepidarium – individual thermal couches release the body’s toxins and relax the muscles
Hammam – providing a scented steam environment to clear the senses

We throroughly enjoyed our three hours and made the most of the helpful board showing the best use of the facilities – there is an order which will maximise the effects on your body.
To date it’s the best spa I’ve been to in central Edinburgh and a real treat whether you’re visiting as a day guest or staying in the hotel.
