‘Piecebox’ – a ‘piece’ is a sandwich, a ‘piecebox’ translates as lunch. And a good lunch is what you’ll get at this cafe in Polwarth. Not trying too hard, it manages to pull off that effortlessly cool vibe, it’s the sort of place you could wile away a good couple of hours.
I visited Piecebox with my daughter who wanted the Chicken Burger and Wedges, with a smaller appetite than an adult and conscious of unnecessary waste I asked about a children’s portion and was delighted that without any fuss at all they simply offered a half portion (at a reduced price). I don’t expect restaurants and cafes to cater for every whim, but where it’s easy and sensible to do this sort of thing, it makes sense to do so. My daughter was absolutely delighted when her meal was delivered on a board like mine with presentation fit for an adult. When you’re ten, these things matter!
I opted for the Chicken BLT with Guacamole and Wedges. Again this came beautifully presented on a board. The chicken was ‘real chicken’ rather than the frozen reshaped kind, and everything had been made fresh to order. It was a big portion, more than enough for lunch.
We did leave a little space for one of their delicious Raspberry Chocolate Brownies. We chose to share, and I’m glad we did as this was a serious bit of cake. It looks all sweet and innocent, but don’t be fooled. It’s rich, and you’ll need a nice coffee or pot of tea to wash it down with.
