Over the past few years burgers and tacos have been the fast food choice of the masses. Pizza restaurants like Pizza Hut seem to have fallen out of favour, but is pizza coming back with a resurgence? I’ve noticed two or three new pizza offerings around Edinburgh, and they’re popular.
@Pizza on Charlotte Lane is one of those places attempting to reinvent how we enjoy pizza.
The interior is metal grey, with a factory feel. It creates a modern, clean vibe that will suit a younger clientele.
One of the staff dubbed @Pizza as the pizza love child of Nandos and Subway, and I get what he means. The dining style is like Nandos – smart restaurants designed for dining before, between, or after your activities. The service is like Subway – you head up to the bar and can either order something from the menu, or create your own. By the time you have completed payment your pizza is pretty much ready. It’s fast and no fuss, and that’s what you want when the dining part of eating out isn’t the actual activity.
Along with your choice of pizza or ‘design your own’ are a couple of sides – a salad and a coleslaw, and their delicious craft sodas which are a real plus point – available in six different flavours, and only 100 calories a glass.
Pizzas are £9.50 each (unless you have a Foodinburgh Card – you can get two for £15). We each ordered our own. Alex and I chose from the menu, he had the Eat Meat Repeat – basically all the meat options on one pizza!
I had the Boombastic which is the resident barbecue option with roast chicken, red onion, sweetcorn, and the controversial pineapple.
Erin was excited to try the Design Your Own option and created a pepperoni affair – she has simple taste when it comes to pizza. She was happy, and anyone with kids will know, that’s all that matters!
The pizzas were fresh and tasty on a thin and crispy base, which is how I like them. At £9.50 I wondered if they were slightly expensive, but others in the Foodinburgh Group have visited and didn’t mention the price – and I guess you get what you pay for, and that’s fresh tasty good quality ingredients.
