The great thing about Edinburgh is the range of styles of accommodation we have; everything from boutique hotels, to B&Bs and apartments. This week I’m featuring a luxury townhouse apartment right in the centre of Edinburgh.
The Rutland Hotel is a five star hotel with a mix of rooms, suites, plus three serviced apartments. Located just off Princes Street, some of the rooms even have a castle view, if that’s a priority for you.
The husband and I have always discussed what it might be like to live in the centre of town, especially in one of the basement townhouse apartments – it would appear our wish had come true as that’s just where The Rutland Hotel had booked us in.
The townhouses in Edinburgh are all in that distinctly Georgian style, and as you descend the stone stairway to the apartment, you can’t help but feel a part of the history.
Inside, the rooms are furnished in a modern style with designer bedroom furniture and statement features. We found ourselves looking around at many of the pieces which in our own home would seem mismatched, but here everything had been curated to create a feeling of ultimate luxury.
The kitchen was fully equipped for self catering with all the appliances you’d enjoy at home. It felt like a perfect base for a family staying a week in Edinburgh. You can take in all the city has to offer and immerse yourself into the Edinburgh lifestyle.
The dining room with seating for four looked out onto a sunny courtyard and would have been a lovely place to enjoy a mea, had we not already arranged dinner out.
Two large sofas offered a place to relax after a long day’s sightseeing or shopping.
The bathroom featured a jacuzzi bath, pampering beauty products by Arran Aromatics (I’ve since been to their shop on George Street to stock up for myself), and thick fluffy bathrobes.
The apartment boasts two rooms; a master with en-suite, and a second double. Luxury bedding – goose-down duvets and pillows and Egyptian cotton sheets ensure you have a restful night’s sleep.
Breakfast isn’t included as No.17 is a self catering apartment, however the hotel also owns The Huxley which offers an excellent breakfast at a reasonable price.
