Scotland is famous worldwide for its seafood. From prawns to lobster, scallops to langoustines, Edinburgh has several amazing restaurants serving up all of these Scottish seafood delights. Here are our top five;
Cadiz
Newly opened above Cafe Andaluz on historic George Street, Cadiz offers up perfectly cooked Scottish seafood and cocktails in a relaxed but stylish environment. The service is impeccable and the langoustine dish was a complete standout.
Mussel Inn
Nestled away on Rose Street, Mussel Inn produces some stunning seafood dishes. Top of the list is unsurprisingly mussels, we had them served in huge pools of garlic butter which we soaked up with fresh bread. Also spectacular was the lobster (a special served in June and July).
Ondine
In the fine dining seafood category, Ondine is at the top of the tree. Scottish seafood intertwines with exotic ingredients to make some truly stunning dishes. They have an oyster bar to shine the spotlight on these fantastic Scottish oysters, and oysters from around the UK. Razor clams, lobster, and scallops also feature heavily on the menu.
Fishers
With three sites around Edinburgh, from fine dining to bar food, these guys do seafood right. We ate in the Shore Bar and Restaurant and had some of the finest Beer Battered Fish and Chips with an amazing Tartar Sauce. Well worth a visit.
Mussel & Steak Bar
Down in the Grassmarket, Mussel and Steak Bar is serving up some impressive mussel pots with classic flavours. The steaks are all prime cuts of Scottish grass fed herds. We had the Loch Fyne queen scallops with garlic and herb butter. They were served in their own shells and were delicious. Arguably a little expensive, but you pay for the location and of course the high quality ingredients.
