Tuk Tuk Indian Street Food restaurant is best described as a kind of Indian Tapas place. Adorned inside with Bollywood posters and brightly coloured walls, the furniture is quite industrial and rustic giving an idea of the rich sights sounds and smells of an Indian food market while nodding towards the industrial backbone of the country. All this and a banging soundtrack too!
The menu is quite extensive, including dishes inspired by roadside cuisine, rickshaw wallahs and classic Indian favourites. The idea is you can choose around two or three dishes each (four if you’re really hungry) then take it from there, ordering extra if needed throughout the meal. We ordered two each, including Chicken Korma, Chicken Lollipops (glorious crispy chicken drumsticks), Tuk Tuk Wallah Staff Curry, Chicken Adraki (mild spicy ginger sauce) and Tangri Kebabs (marinated tandoori chicken.)
One of my favourites was the Tandoori Lamb Chops which were flavourful and tender, with a really nice char on them from the grill.
There are plenty of side dishes to order too. We went for the plain Naan Bread, to soak up all that wonderful curry sauce and some Poppadoms with a selection of chutneys.
To drink they offer an alternative to Coca Cola called Thums Up. It is similar to Coke and indeed made by the Coca Cola company but it’s well worth a try. It’s more refreshing and has a more fruity taste. There are also a selection of authentic Indian soft drinks such as Lassi on the menu.
All in all I would say that if you like Indian food, want to try something a bit different and enjoy sharing food, this place is right up your street.
