Wahaca is celebrating Halloween Mexican style with a special Day Of The Dead Feasting Menu.
We went to Edinburgh’s Wahaca last night which was awash with colourful decorations and lanterns to try the feasting menu for ourselves.
The menu offers three courses plus a Corona or Classic Margarita for £25 per person.
To start we had the Guacamole and Tortilla Chips. I’ve been to Wahaca a few times and always choose the salsa, so it was nice to try something different and I’d definitely order it again.
The dishes are served as they are ready at Wahaca, the first to arrive was the Smoky Cauliflower Cheese. The cauliflower had been roasted in the oven which gives it a nutty taste and dusted with spices, think of it as a Mexican twist on the traditional version.
The Buttermilk Chicken Tacos are a favourite of mine and one of the dishes I usually order. Crispy fried chicken wrapped in a soft tortilla. Delicious.
The Roast Chilli Quesadillas were oozing with at least two types of cheese (that I could identify!) and a good helping of roast chillis giving them a real kick.
Up next were the Wild Mushroom Empanadas – crispy parcels stuffed with mushrooms and potato served with a green tomatillo salsa.
The Sweet Potato and Feta Taquito was another new dish for us, and one we’ll definitely order again, it was less spicy than the others which gave our feasting menu some balance.
Finally, another old favourite, Pork Pibil Tacos. These soft tacos are stuffed with slow cooked pork, refried beans and topped with fiery pink pickled onions.
I’m not sure what happened to the Smoked Salmon Tostadas which should have been included. Smoked salmon isn’t my favourite and we already had plenty of food so we didn’t chase them up.
Instead we looked forward to our Churros with Chocolate which completed our feasting menu off perfectly.
For an informal Mexican feast this Halloween I definitely recommend a visit to Wahaca. The menu runs until 5th November!
