Back in 2005 I was pregnant, and apart from a trip to Santorini I spent most of my time imitating a beached whale, watching Masterchef from the couch. As a committed foodie, I LOVE cookery programmes. I watched religiously that year as Thomasina Miers progressed through the rounds and eventually won the final.
In 2007 she opened her first Wahaca restaurant, and last year the Wahaca chain reached Edinburgh and I was excited to finally get the chance to visit one of her restaurants and try some of her food.
The menu is flexible with nibbles, street food, and larger dishes.
We ordered a selection of street food dishes including Quesadillas, Tostadas, and Tacos.
Having built myself up for the Wahaca experience, I wasn’t disappointed, and I’ve actually already been back again. I’ll be honest, it’s not as good as El Cartel, however, it’s accessible, tasty, and relatively inexpensive. It’s also great for families and in a good central location. I expect to be a regular.
Our favourite dishes were the Baja MSC Battered Cod Tacos and the Pork Pibil Tacos.
To finish off we ordered the Churros with Chocolate Sauce and Dulce De Leche. If you’re feeling brave, give the Cricket Brownie a try!
