We recently visited Dundee for a couple of nights as we were keen to try the Tayberry and Newport Restaurants. So as the last few months seem to be all things Malmaison, we decided to book into their hotel which sits in the centre. The building was stunning, and very in-keeping with the Merchant/shipyard  vibe which runs throughout the city centre, in fact from the angle we took the picture above, the hotel looks like the front of a ship.

Reception was extremely welcoming, and chatty, it was clear the the receptionist loved her job.  We were given a riverside room on the 4th floor, the views were amazing we even managed to squeeze in an awesome sunset which was totally unexpected for January!

As with all Malmaison hotels, the rooms are well equipped, everything thought of, well decorated and good sizes, this one was no different. We loved the high ceilings which gave the feeling of space.  The bathroom had a large bath, and separate shower, Arran products and plenty of hot water.  The room was extremely clean and well looked after.

The whole reception, dining and bar areas  all maintained their original features and we loved how the  features had been preserved and used as main focal points throughout the hotel.

We had breakfast in the morning in an opulent, grand dining room with views over the river and comfy booths to relax in. They were very short staffed, which seems to be the way of things at the moment, however we were really impressed to see the manager, and other staff supporting the kitchen  so there was minimal disruption to guests. Unfortunately the food wasn’t the best,  pretty average and tasteless but we did enjoy the surroundings and Erica loved the pastries.

Despite the room being immaculately clean, the rest of the hotel did look like it needed a good clean, in particular the lifts, stairs and corridors. This may have been due to staff shortages of course as it’s unusual for Malmaison hotels to be like that.  There is no parking so we had to put the car in the local council car park which cost and extra £15, however we would just bear that in mind for our next visit.

All in all, great value for money, we paid £115 with breakfast for one night, and felt like we had been well looked after in luxurious surroundings.
