In February I (Erica) took a trip to London for Erin’s 16th birthday. We had some great foodie experiences including Bubble Tea at Xing Fu Tang, the Camden Street Food Market, and Aromatic Duck in Chinatown. We also had our first ever Haché Burger.

The decor was vibrant and fun with a Parisian flavour. We ordered a couple of cocktails and a mocktail to get us started. I’d heard Haché Burger had won an award for best burger in London so we all decided to go for the Steak Le Fumé. Each burger is a 6oz haché (minced) burger served medium unless you ask otherwise. We didn’t ask otherwise. Interestingly we had a chat with a burger bar manager recently who said that Edinburgh Council had a ruling in place that stopped burgers being cooked this way, not sure if it’s still the case. Anyway, you get a lovely big beef patty and our burger’s unique selling point was that it was served beneath a cloche encasing a cloud of smoke. A gimmick? Maybe. I’m happy to have my burger served with a bit of drama though, especially on such an important celebration as a 16th birthday!

The burger itself was really tasty. Is it the best burger I’ve ever had? No, but it was really good. We had a couple of sides of fries and sweet potato fries and then it was onto the dessert menu.

We decided on the Banofé Pot – it was a potted version of the traditional banoffee pie with banana, biscuit, caramel, and cream. It was a generous portion and very sweet and a little hard set in places, but it sorted the sweet tooth out. We love anything S’mores so couldn’t resist the S’mores In A Jar – it came in the came vehicle as the aforementioned pot, I think they could have possibly been a little more inventive. The contents were chocolate, biscuit, and marshmallow fluff with a topping of torched mini marshmallows. It was again very sweet and satisfied two sweet teeth and some over to spare.

It was a pleasant meal with tasty food that we all enjoyed. London has so much to offer that I would probably be keen to try somewhere new next time but worth a look if you’re a burger fan.
